Top Jamaican security officials will meet with their Cuban counterparts to strengthen anti-narcotics cooperation between the two countries.
A delegation led by Jamaica’s Security Minister Dwight Nelson will arrive in Cuba this week to formalize previously negotiated agreements on maritime and police cooperation against drug and arms trafficking.
Jamaica’s dedication to fighting smugglers operating in the region has been questioned by Cuban officials in the past, but Nelson insisted the island neighbors have been working together since 2006.
It is thought that Jamaican drug traffickers use Cuba’s maritime and air space to avoid detection by the U.S. Coast Guard.
