Mexico’s authorities said that 12 suspected members of the Zetas were killed in a shootout with the Mexican Navy, which lost one man in the confrontation, reports CNN.

The incident took place after officers spotted a suspicious encampment on Falcon Lake, which lies on the U.S.-Mexican border. The settlement was on an island thought to be used by drug dealers to store marijuana before transporting it by boat to United States.

Falcon Lake was the site of the murder of an American man who was allegedly shot in the head by drug gangs when sailing with his wife last September. The man’s body has yet to be found.
